The Roof of Brabant – A Hidden Peak Near Nuenen
📍 De Gulbergen, North Brabant, The Netherlands

Most people don’t come to the Netherlands for its mountains — and rightly so. But just outside the quiet town of Nuenen, where Van Gogh once wandered the fields, lies a surprising elevation: De Gulbergen, also known as “the Roof of Brabant.”

It’s not exactly the Andes. In fact, it’s a former landfill turned into a green hilltop — a transformation I find oddly beautiful. At around 60 meters high, it’s the highest point in North Brabant. And while it won’t take your breath away through altitude, the view might.

From the top, on a clear day, you can spot the skyline of Eindhoven, small villages tucked into the landscape, and forests stretching into the distance. It’s a great spot for a morning hike, trail run, or simply to sit and take in the surroundings.

Why I love it?
Because it’s unexpected. Quiet. Local. It’s a reminder that beauty doesn’t have to be dramatic — sometimes it’s subtle, reshaped, and right in front of you.

A fragment of fascination, close to home.
